Columbia Bottom Conservation Area

North of I-270 and Riverview Dr., 4,300-acre conservation area at the confluence of America's great rivers - the Missouri and Mississippi. Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, bird watching. Reservations required for Naturalist Lead Programs.

Hours:
Columbia Bottom Conservation Area is closed from one half hour after sunset until one half hour before sunrise daily except for authourized hunting and fishing activities and launching and landing boats. Visitors Center open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Wed.-Fri. Phone: (314) 877-6014

Directions

To reach the area, go north approximately 2.8 miles from the I-270 Riverview Drive exit. Riverview Drive becomes Columbia Bottom Road at its intersection with Larimore Road.

Rules and Regulations

  • Bicycles are allowed only on roads open to vehicles and designated trails. Bicycles are not permitted on service roads or the River's Edge Trail. Madison Ferry Trail is open only from April 1 through August 31.
  • No free running pets.
  • Dogs must be leashed or otherwise confined when not being trained or used for authorized hunting.
  • Motor vehicles are restricted to the area parking lots and roadways.
  • Target shooting, fireworks and open fires are prohibited.
  • Horseback riding is allowed only on the Madison Ferry Trail and from April 1 through August 31.
  • Hunting is permitted only during managed hunts or by holders of a valid daily tag.
  • Fishing is permitted in the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers by statewide regulations.
  • Trapping of furbearers allowed only with a special use permit.

Great Rivers Greenway has completed more than 104 miles of off-street greenway trails and 84 miles of on-street biking pathways since 2000. With a total vision of more than 600 miles of greenways, and ADA-accessible bike and pedestrian trails connecting the St. Louis region, GRG is working to make the area a better place by connecting communities, connecting people with nature, promoting physical activity and providing an infrastructure for bicycle and pedestrian transportation.
